Jim and I have been asked to do an interview and performance on AFN (American Forces Network) Which goes out over the world. This is a really good opportunity to spread the beauty of tribal belly dance. What importen information does the tribal belly dance community want the world to hear about?
Please feel to to give suggestions.

    That's so cool! I grew up on military bases overseas, and I have AFN programming to thank for learning all sorts of random information.
    I would definitely talk about how ATS gives dancers anywhere in the world the ability to get together and perform because although they may come from different places and speak different languages they share a language of dance (well, theorhetically), and how through Tribal Fusion you get to learn about other cultures through dance and share it with others.
    Good Luck!

    Sounds like a great opportunity! Thought of four quick items to add...

    #1 -- Would spend a little time on the history of modern belly dance -- give the founders their due;

    #2 -- Since it's military bases, you may want to talk about the opportunities to study from videos or online -- considering how transitional military living arrangements can be and that classes are not always readily available;

    #3 -- Would again emphasize the "worldwide" family aspect of belly dance and groups like those on tribe that can help you connect before you get to your new home or once you are already there; and

    #4 -- And, of course...show them some moves in your great costumes.

    Just wondering...does anyone know of any belly dance classes at/ near Military bases?

    Best of luck...send the link of the interview if you can! Kim

    I can't wait!

    I JUST moved to a new military base (Kadena AFB) on Okinawa, and will be getting cable television tomorrow! Please keep us posted about this! I'd really hate to miss it on the air!

    As for classes around military bases, there are some currently offered at the USO on Kadena by a lovely lady named Heather! The only down side is that she'll be moving to Texas in December. Well, down for me, up for her! Also, there's a troupe on the island named MoonRoses! I haven't heard anything about classes from them yet, but I'm hoping something will pop up! They're all beautiful Japanese women. :)

      I have found it really hard to find tribal classes around the over seas bases. England has a huge tribal life going on I even got some of the teacher to come around the base and teach workshops and sometimes I had to do a little traveling for workshops but it was always fun and well worth it.
      I'm in the Azores now and sadly there is nothing around me but I will be teaching with a NAFF contract on base soon. YAY!

    It's the same here - other than the MoonRoses, I'm pretty sure there isn't any tribal teachers! My teacher is traditionally an Egyptian dancer, but she really likes to dabble in some tribal fusion. I'm taking her beginner class with others for now, but soon I hope to start a private lesson focused mainly on tribal! Wow, really? That's awesome! I have a NAFF job watching children at the CDCs, but I would much rather be paid to teach dancing. You lucked out with that one!

    Oh, and another unrelated but totally weird thing, my husband's aunt is Okinawan! Her name is Shigeiko(?) and she hasn't been to the island in maybe 10+ years! We'll be here for 4, and hopefully she'll get a chance to come visit! Oh, and did I mention this island is gorgeous?
