So I know this is a question everyone throws out there every once in a while, but I'm always looking for news. What is some stuff you all like to dance to? I like things that are a little bit more different than the usual pure tribal music (like Helm, or Gypsy Caravan, which I love, but have a lot of similar things already). I like that Rachel Brice uses Pentaphobe, or the Toids and I love Beats Antique... any other suggestions? Thanks a bunch for you help :)

Re: Music
Wed, April 30, 2008 - 8:35 AMWell, it could be depending upon my mood but I love dancing to lots of different stuff.
"Thievery Corporation" has a unique modern techno arabic upscale twist on their music.
"Maduro" has that awesome hard industrial edge with arabic hints in his music.
"Amon Tobin" also has that razor sharp edge but it's a little more experimental. I think Kami Liddle danced to Sultan Drops once.
"Dhol Foundation" has a fun sound to their music, very Bhangra sounding with LOTS of drumming.
"Solace", of coarse is very popular.
Karim Nagi, who I just met and is such a sweet guy, has some awesome songs. I think his DJ name is Turbo Tabla.
Hossam Ramzy is a classic arabic musician, many cabaret dancers use his songs, but I think his music can translate to any type of dancing.
"Harem" has some very cool drum solos.
I love bhangra music, and the whole soundtrack to "Monsoon Wedding" makes me boogie (especially when cleaning the house!)
"Natasha Atlas" is a middle eastern musician that likes to put a modern spin on her music.
And much more, but really I love to dance to non-traditional stuff too. I dance to techno, salsa, rock-n-roll, even a little hip-hop and more!

Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:24 PMI would recommend the Upper Egypt Ensemble and The Musicians of the Nile if you are interested in traditional music. As far as electronic stuff goes I really love Cheb i Sabbah.

Wed, April 30, 2008 - 1:59 PMDelerium (industrial with a little bit of everything)
Riven soundtrack (more for slow isolations)
Govinda (danceable beats and lots of violin)
QNTAL (various electronic beats with instruments and vocals that lean toward old Celtic stuff)
