I was impressed with how well Justin Fairley went to bat for us to get this out there.

My husband has it up on facebook if you want to check it out :) I'm going to put it up on youtube soon.

For those who missed it in the other thread "the stigma of bellydance"

"I was approached with an opportunity to discuss tribal style belly dance. I jumped at the chance.
I told them I wanted to hit on the subject of the stigma behind it. After we did 2 days of filming.
The two days were not the interveiw but filming of the performing. We schedule to do the interveiw
after the weekend. Then the day rolls around and I get an email that cancelled the interveiw. I later asked why.
The man I was interveiwing with very apologetically explained to me that he's new boss didn't know if they
should show the "belly dance" piece. He said she has never even seenany of the photage. But simple going off of the word "

Great job. Yer hubby's a looker, just like you!

I think it's really fascinating, as I was watching, how the fact that your husband participates in it lent legitimacy to it. Like "how could it be so bad if her husband is there doing it with her and encouraging her?" So many things women have tried to do throughout the ages had the same struggle, and it was only when men legitimized it (or defeminized it or desexualized it, in other cases) that it became "okay". It gave me a lot to think about.

    Congrats on a great interview!

      Thanks for watching.

I see your veiw point. You brought up an interesting and thought provoking angle that I had not quite considered. It wasn't quite my intenion to say that belly dance is not sexaul. I was trying to highlight that once you remove the concept of sexuality from the stigma, you can then begin to see belly dance for the true art form that it is. Sadly, I've been approached by far too many people that can't seem to understand that belly dance doesn't HAVE to be sexual...but, as we all know, it certainly can be. :)

On a side note, this video was meant to air for a military audience to demonstrated how my husband and I find ways to stay connected to each other despite our constantly changing lifestyle. I tried to put in as much educational information as I could. :o) Unfortunately, due to the time contraint of the piece, I think some of the message may have gotten lost. ;) (To be honest, I think it's a big step forward that the military even allowed this piece to air...they almost didn't. Thankfully, Justin, the interviewer, went to bat for us.)

Did you notice in the beginning it was tribe I was looking at on the computer? :o)

Lovin' it. I'm glad you got to put an informative piece on bellydance out there. So much of what people normally see is performance, which is wonderful, but not always educational for its audience. This was. I bet you definitely inspired a few new bellydancers just from this interview. *applauds*
