Re: Songs for Sword dance?
Tue, February 22, 2005 - 6:41 AMSlightly slower, more hipnotic songs seem to set the right mood I think. Here's what I would recommend:
Colors of the Middle East - off a compilation CD called "Songs of the Middle East" I got for like $3 at Best Buy.
Bascha by Domba
Any of the slower stuff by Solace
Prologue by Loreena McKennett
Just to get you started...

Re: Songs for Sword dance?
Thu, February 24, 2005 - 2:24 PMI second the Morrocan Spirit Cd suggestion by Oracle. I was in Vegas for a convention not to long after I started learning bellydancing and was looking around in a shop in the Luxor hotel and they were playing it over the intercom in the shop. I remember closing my eyes and just swaying to the sound of it. I had to have it, my husband bought it for me at the shop and it was the very last one out of 20 they had gotten in the day before.

Re: Songs for Sword dance?
Thu, February 24, 2005 - 11:55 AM"Awakening" from Gypsy Caravan's CD of the same name is awesome for sword... Some of the tracks from their latest release _Quest_ would work too, I think, although I haven't tried any with the sword yet. -

Re: Songs for Sword dance?
Wed, March 2, 2005 - 4:56 PMI love Quest, I do a sword dance to Mystery Blue (the last track) but several other tracks from that CD would also work well.
I also have done a sword dance to The Shisha Room by Solace, which you can buy individually off of ITunes!

Re: Songs for Sword dance?
Fri, February 25, 2005 - 2:14 AMI just started teaching myself to sword dance today, and I am hooked on "Ou Est Ma Petite Danseuse?" on Gypsy Caravan's CD "Migration". To me, it sounds slow and mysterious, very deep and beautiful. I practiced with my sword with that song on "repeat" for like 2 hours today!

Re: Songs for Sword dance?
Sat, February 26, 2005 - 1:59 PMI just did a sword dance to "Exhale" by Susu on the Fate c.d. that's produced by Suhaila Salimpour (at least i think she produced it). I think the drumming in it is perfect and I recieved many compliments and queries on it. -

Re: Songs for Sword dance?
Wed, March 2, 2005 - 4:34 PMI haven't had much experience with sword myself ( much to my dismay) But the other day I was listening to a song and I thought "that would be cool for a sword dance." Its on the BDSS 2 CD, the one Aziza picked "Aahat" by Wael Kfouri.
Hope that helps!
